Abstract

ABSTRACT
The incidence of pediatric cerebral tumors is low in developing countries compared to industrialized countries; probably because many children die prior to diagnosis either because of limited financial resources or because of the limited access to modern technologies of diagnosis. We report the case of a 12 year old boy with an emergency placement of ventriculoperitoneal shunt because of tumoral intracranial hypertension. Pineal localization and MRI features lead to the diagnosis of a germinal tumor. The elevation of the alpha fetoprotein tumoral marker confirmed the diagnosis of secreting germ cell tumor of the pineal region. Chemotherapy alleviated all the symptoms.
