Abstract

ABSTRACT
Piebaldism is a rare genodermatosis that remains unknown in the dermatological community in Mali. It can be socially and psychologically disabling, especially in children. It is usually a benign condition. Nevertheless, there is local photosensitivity of the depigmented areas and the psychosocial impact can sometimes be very significant. Piebaldism with diffuse cutaneous achromia has been rarely reported in the literature especially in Africa. We report a case of piebaldism with diffuse cutaneous achromia in a 3-year-old Malian child, that was mistaken as vitiligo. This case could pave the way for further genetic research including gene therapy to improve the quality of life of patients.
