RÉSUMÉ
Introduction. Conclusion.

ABSTRACT
Introduction. Perinatal asphyxia is a major cause of neonatal mortality worldwide and particularly in resource-limited countries like Cameroon. Basic neonatal resuscitation (NR) skills in the delivery room are essential to improve newborn survival. The present study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of health professionals regarding neonatal resuscitation and the factors associated with good practice in the city of Garoua in Cameroon. Methods. This was an analytical CAP study. The target population consisted of health professionals working in the maternity wards of the health facilities (HF) in the city of Garoua. The variables sought were: characteristics of the health facilities, socio-demographic and professional characteristics of health personnel, length of service, training in NR, technical knowledge, attitude and practice of NR. The data were collected using a pre-established and pre-tested questionnaire applied to consenting staff. Statistical analysis was done using Epi Info 7.1.4.0. Software and the chi2 and odds ratio (OR) test with its 95% confidence interval was used to assess associations. Results. We included 111 health professionals with an average age of 36.2±6.95 years. The sex ratio was 0.44. The median professional length in service was 7±5.9 years. Nurse aides were in the majority (27%) followed by midwives (24.3%); 78% of the staff surveyed had poor knowledge, 77% had wrong attitudes and 56% had bad practices. Training in neonatal resuscitation was the only variable that influenced knowledge of health care professionals on neonatal resuscitation. Conclusion. Health care providers working in maternity wards have insufficient skills in neonatal resuscitation. Training is needed to improve the tendency.
