Abstract

Congenital epulis is a rare benign tumor in newborns that develops from the alveolar ridge and presents at birth as a gingival mass. Despite its sometimes alarming appearance, the prognosis is excellent following excision. We report a series of two cases along with a review of the literature. This is a series of two cases that we report from 2025, occurring within a 3-month period and affecting both sexes. The first child was seen on day 0 of life, and the second on day 20 of life. In both cases, the lesion was a pedunculated oval mass in the mandibular incisor region, causing difficulty with breastfeeding. There was no gynecological or obstetric history in the mothers, nor any history of malformations among the siblings. Excision under local anesthesia was performed using a cold blade, followed by hemostasis achieved through the application of trichloroacetic acid in both cases. The postoperative course was uneventful. Pathological examinations confirmed congenital epulis. The prognosis was favorable, marked by good weight gain and the absence of recurrence. Congenital epulis is a rare benign tumor in newborns. Early management helps prevent functional feeding disorders and, above all, eliminates the risk of stigmatization in these children.
