Abstract

Introduction. Conclusion.
ABSTRACT
Introduction. As part of the implementation of an emergency tele-ultrasound unit (tele-eFAST) within a district hospital, this study aims to explore the potential of blended learning in the acquisition of knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals (HPs). Methods. This study involved two groups of HPs: an intervention group who received blended learning on the practice of eFAST and a control group who did not received blended learning. Assessment scores before (pre-test) and after (post-test) blended learning as well as progression between the two tests allowed to compare the two groups. The quality of image cuts during eFAST exams were evaluated during the first 2 months after the training. Results. The mean of pre-test score was 48.08% and 40.38% in intervention and control groups respectively (p = 0.68) versus 83.65% and 49.03% for post-test in intervention and control groups respectively (p = 0.02). Progression was 35.58% for the intervention group versus 8.65% for the control group (p = 0.20). Two months after the implementation of tele-eFAST unit, 22 exams were performed by the participants who benefited of blended learning autonomously. The radiologist estimated that the quality of image cuts was good in 54.5% (n = 12) of the cases. Conclusion. Blended learning has potential benefits for the capacity building of HPs in resource-limited settings. It can be considered as an alternative training method in the implementation of healthcare interventions such as telemedicine.
