Conclusion.

ABSTRACT

Introduction. The occurrence of foreign bodies (FB) is a common reason for consultation in ENT. The purpose of the study was to describe the pattern of ENT foreign bodies in our practice. Materials and methods. This was a cross sectional prospective descriptive study of one year duration (January - December 2015), covering all cases of foreign bodies of the external auditory canals and upper aero digestive tract collected at the ENT department. Ignace Deen National Hospital. Our variables of interest were the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic data. Results. During the study period, 2177 consultations were done and among them, FB occurred 192 times (8.82%). The age of the patients ranged from 2 to 60 years with a predominance of children less than 10 years (42.71%). The sex ratio male / female was two. The average time delay before admission was 48 h with extremes of 0 to 30 days. The main circumstance of the FB introduction was games (54.17%). The external auditory canal was the most frequent location (64.58%). The nature of EC was most often inorganic (76.56%) than organic (23.44%). All the FB were extracted via the introduction route, and most of them in the consultation chair, (90.10%). The evolution was favourable for all the patients. Conclusion. ENT foreign bodies are a frequent reason for ENT consultation especially in children and they affect mainly boys. Most of them are inorganic and found in the external auditory canal. Prognosis after extraction is good.

}, number={2}, journal={HEALTH SCIENCES AND DISEASE}, author={Diallo, Alpha Oumar and Keita, A and Itiere Odzili, FA and Diallo, OA and Fofana, M and Conde, B and Diallo, MT and Diallo, MMR}, year={2018}, month={Mar.} }
