Mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B virus is the main cause of chronic carriage of the HBs antigen (AgHBs). The objective of our work was to describe clinical aspects and outcome of pregnancies in women carrying Hbs antigen. Methodology. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study over 3 years (from 1st May 2016 to 28th April 2019) in the Gynecological Endoscopy and Human Reproduction Teaching Hospital (CHRACERH) of Yaoundé. We carried out an exhaustive consecutive sampling. We included all AgHBs positive pregnant women followed at CHRACERH. Our variables of interest were: circumstances of diagnosis, viral load, hepatitis treatment status, issue of pregnancy and vaccination status of newborn... The mean was calculated for the quantitative variables and the qualitative variables were presented in numbers and percentages. Results. We recorded 14 cases of viral hepatitis B in pregnancy during the study period. The mean age of mothers was 30.36 ± 4.9 years with extremes of 22 and 37 years. Six women (42.86%) were aged 32 to 36 years. Viral hepatitis B was diagnosed in 35.71% before pregnancy and 35.71% in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy. AgHBe was positive in a pregnant woman. The viral load of hepatitis B was undetectable in 6 pregnant women (42.86%). Specific treatment for hepatitis B based on Tenofovir was received by 3 pregnant women, or 21.43%. All the newborns received the serovaccination. We recorded one case of prevention failure (7.1%). Conclusion. Anti-viral treatment and serovaccination of the newborn from birth allow effective prevention of vertical transmission of HBV

RÉSUMÉ
Introduction. La transmission mère-enfant du virus de l’hépatite B est la principale cause de portage chronique de l’antigène HBs (AgHBs). Objectif. Décrire les aspects cliniques et évolutifs d’un groupe de gestantes porteuses de l’antigène Hbs. Méthodologie. Nous avons mené une étude transversale descriptive sur 3 ans (du 1er Mai 2016 au 28 Avril 2019) au Centre Hospitalier de Recherche et d’Application en Chirurgie Endoscopique et Reproduction Humaine (CHRACERH. Nous avons procédé à un échantillonnage consécutif exhaustif. Nous avons inclus toutes les femmes enceintes Ag HBs positif suivies au CHRACERH. Nos variables d’études étaient : le moment du diagnostic de l’hépatite, la charge virale, les modalités du traitement préventif, le statut sérologique du nouveau né. Résultats. Nous avons enregistré 14 cas d’hépatite virale B en grossesse durant la période d’étude. La moyenne d’âge était de 30,36 ± 4.9 ans avec des extrêmes de 22 et 37 ans. La tranche d’âge la plus représentée était celle de 32 à 36 ans soit 42,86 %. L’hépatite virale B avait été diagnostiquée dans 35,71 % cas avant la grossesse et 35,71 % au 2eme trimestre de la grossesse. L’Ag HBe était positif chez une gestante. La charge virale de l’hépatite B était indétectable chez 6 gestantes soit 42,86 %. Un traitement spécifique contre l’hépatite B à base de Tenofovir avait été reçu par 3 gestantes soit 21,43%. Tous les nouveau-nés avaient reçu la sérovaccination et au final on a enregistré un cas d’échec de prévention soit 7.1%. Conclusion. Le traitement anti-viral et la sérovaccination du nouveau-né dès la naissance permettent une prévention efficace de la transmission verticale du VHB.}, number={2}, journal={HEALTH SCIENCES AND DISEASE}, author={Kasia, Jean Marie and Noa Ndoua, Claude Cyrille and Kensoung, Hermione and Belinga, Etienne}, year={2020}, month={Jan.} }
